The Mongols: Geography, Leadership, and Technology.

The way the Steppe people lived helped them conquer several places mainly because they were very nomadic, basically invented nomadic culture. They lived in yurts and would pack up and leave a day after they got there. It made it very easy for them to flee if need be. The fact that the Mongols were nomadic, set them apart from agricultural people they conquered, because they were nomadic and could easily get up and leave. The agricultural people they conquered didn't move around. They were not nomadic, like the Mongols were. The mongols conquered several people, across several different cities in Asia. They conquered China in the 13th century. They conquered so many different Asian cultures, and they were able to do that because of their ruler, Genghis Khan. Plus their amazing warfare tactics. When Genghis Khan died his last dying wish was to have his empire expanded, so his son, Ögedai Kahn took over. The Mongols, to this day, continue to use Khans archery tactics and the Mongols warfare tactics.

A few important Mongol leaders, were, Genghis Khan, one of the most famous ones, and his son, Ögedai Khan, who took over when Genghis passed away. Genghis also had several successors who helped along the way. Genghis had 3 or 4 sons and Ögedai was the youngest one. Before Genghis died he made Ögedai his successor and split his empire into khanates, giving them to his kids and grandkids. Before Genghis died, he managed to conquer China, Turkistan, Pakistan. Then after Genghis died, Ögedai added to their empire by conquering west of Asia, and most of Europe. Plus some of the Middle East.

The Mongols invented and used tons of technology, that without them making and using it we wouldn't have. They didn't necessarily invent the bow and arrow but they used it a lot and from the day they were born, they were taught to ride a horse and shoot a bow and arrow. The Mongols also had what they called Halberds, which is a two sided blade mounted on a pole. Very sharp, majorly used for poking, jabbing, cutting, spearing, those kinds of things. They also had a Mongol Saber which was a sword like object that could effectively cut through armor and helmets. Plus, they had their wide array of spears and lances.
